The Journal

Thinking out loud.

Two things live here. What is actually happening in the house right now, photographed as it is. And longer pieces about why rooms work, why they don't, and what I got wrong before I got it right.

Right now

Where every room actually stands.

Updated as work happens. No staging, no waiting for a room to look finished before it gets mentioned.

Five rooms in progress Last updated August 2026

The Entry

Mirror, credenza and paint are settled. Drapery is the one piece still being decided — patterned linen or tobacco velvet. Rug and door still being hunted for.

In progress

The Living Room

Fluted panels are sitting in the house waiting to go up. Cabinets are still being built. Ceiling moulding and trim awaiting install. Floor lamp and mirror still being sourced, rug still being hunted for.

In progress

The Dining Room

Table, chairs, sideboard, curtains and pendant all sourced. The mural has been found but not bought — that decision waits on whether the built-ins happen. Rug still being hunted for.

In progress

The Powder Room

Everything is chosen. The walnut counter still has to be built, the vent fan still has to be swapped, and the mirror placement — centred or off to one side — is still open.

In progress

The Office

Wall panels delivered, paint done, lighting sourced, desk and shelves confirmed and ready to build. The sofa is the decision that sets the tone for everything else — velvet or print.

In progress

Photographs start appearing here as the work does. Right now the rooms above exist as concept renderings on the Work page and as a construction site in real life. Neither of those is a photograph worth publishing yet.

When the panels go up, when the cabinets arrive, when the counter gets built — that gets photographed as it is, dust included, and posted here.

Know when something moves.

A letter when a room changes, and when a new piece goes up. Nothing else.

No funnels. No selling. Leave any time.

Longer pieces

Why rooms work, and why they don't.

Written the way I would say it to a friend who asked. Start with 01 if you are furnishing something. Start with 03 if you already know something is off.

One letter, most weeks.

A new entry, a room in progress, and occasionally something worth the wait.

No funnels. No selling. Leave any time.

Sometimes the room doesn't need a new style. It needs a better reason.
